Writing and Formatting
Culma looks like a finished page while you write, but underneath it's plain Markdown. You can format by typing, with the toolbar, or with shortcuts. Use whichever feels natural.
Type it, and it becomes it
| Type at the start of a line | You get |
|---|---|
# , ## , ### | A heading |
- | A bullet list |
1. | A numbered list |
- [ ] | A task with a checkbox |
> | A quote |
` ` ` | A code block |
Make words stand out
Select some text and a small bar appears with the options for it. The toolbar above the note has everything else.
- Bold with Ctrl+B, italic with Ctrl+I, underline with Ctrl+U,
strikethroughwith Ctrl+S Inline codefor commands and names- <span style="color:#2085f3">Text in color</span> and <span style="background-color:#9c851f">highlighted text</span>
- Links: paste a web address or an email and it becomes a link by itself, like https://culma.eu
Colors are adjusted for dark mode automatically, so they stay readable in both.
Lists that think like an outline
- Tab indents a list item, Shift+Tab moves it back out
- Lists can nest as deeply as you like
- like this
- and this
- like this
- Headings can sit inside lists, too
Quotes are good for things other people said, or for tips that deserve a frame.
Tables and code
Tables like the one above can be edited in place. Code blocks get syntax coloring. Pick the language from the toolbar while the cursor is inside the block:
def greet(name):
return f"Hello, {name}!"
Pictures, video, audio and PDFs
Paste a screenshot, drag a file onto the note, or use the Insert image or file button. Culma keeps the file in the vault's assets folder and shows it right in the note, just like the logo on Welcome to Culma.
Reading size
Ctrl + and Ctrl − change how large text is drawn, and Ctrl+0 resets it. It applies to every note on this device.
