Dictation and Quick Capture
Speak instead of type
Click the microphone at the right end of the toolbar and start talking. Your words appear at the cursor, one sentence at a time. Click it again, or press Escape, to stop.
- Private by design. Speech is turned into text on your own device and never sent anywhere.
- Many languages. Speak in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and most other European languages.
- The first time, Culma downloads its speech model. It asks before doing so on a metered connection or when disk space is tight. You'll find it under Preferences → Dictation.
- On a phone, the microphone sits above the keyboard. Tap it to dictate, or hold it down and talk for a quick sentence.
Quick capture: an idea, from anywhere
On the desktop, press Ctrl+Alt+Space wherever you are, even in another app. A small box appears. Type your thought, press Enter, and it's saved in Culma. Your other work stays right where it was.
- Captures go to today's daily note or a note of your choosing, such as a "Scratch" note you sort through later. Set this under Preferences → Quick capture, where you can also change the key.
- The box has dictation, too, and where your system allows it, a button that grabs a screenshot straight into the note.
- Links and
- [ ]tasks work in the box just as they do in a note.
Quick capture works because Culma keeps running in the tray after you close its window.
